# Biomes And Vegetation When creating {{< glossterm >}}add_ons{{< /glossterm >}} for Microsoft Flight Simulator it is possible to generate your own unique **biomes** and **vegetation** which can then be used in [The Scenery Editor](../../../devmode/editors/scenery-editor/the-scenery-editor/) (using [Polygon Objects](../../../devmode/editors/scenery-editor/objects/polygon-objects/)) to create areas with specific types of plants, as well as to change how more general regions are populated in the world. Currently this can only be done using [XML Files](../../../devmode/editors/project-editor/file-formats/xml-files/) which need to be added to a package to be used.   To properly create a biome, you will require *two* files, which should both be exported to a folder called "vegetation" in the final package. The first file will define one or more **species** of vegetation, and then the second file will define the **biomes** where that species can be found. To include this in a project you would use the [Copy](../../../devmode/editors/project-editor/asset-types/#Copy) asset type in [The Project Editor](../../../devmode/editors/project-editor/the-project-editor/) to copy the "vegetation" folder with the XML files in it from the "PackageSources" folder into the final package. You can find an example of how such a project should be setup here: - [SimpleBiomes](../../../samples-tutorials/samples/sceneries/simplebiomes/) It is worth noting that files in the "vegetation" directory are parsed in lexicographic order, ie: those beginning with a number will be first (in incremental order) and then those beginning with a letter (in alphabetical order).
